FAQ

  • When should you call emergency interventions?
In case you require an emergency intervention due to the smell of gas, no gas inside the installations, fire, or smell of returning flue gases from your boiler, due to possible poisoning, call the emergency services (24/7) at 0800 400400.

  • How to safely use gas?
To safely use gas, the most important thing is to have your boiler serviced regularly and the chimney checked regularly. Furthermore, if you have an atmospheric boiler, it is important to follow the instructions about the air supply system, as an atmospheric boiler uses the air inside the area in which it is installed. In such areas, you mustn’t use an extraction hood or any type of fan due to possible returning of flue gases. Also, PVC windows and doors mustn’t be installed in such areas, the doors to the bathroom must have ventilation openings, and all doors inside the apartment need to be trimmed by at least 2 cm.

  • Do I have to service my boiler every year?
It is recommended that atmospheric boilers, which use air for combustion from the area in which they are installed, are serviced at least once a year. Appliances with a closed combustion chamber (turbo boilers) need to be serviced at least once every two years.

  • Why regular gas meter readings?
Gas meter reading, which also includes a visual inspection of the measuring regulation fittings  by the persons doing the reading, is a prerequisite for charging the supplied gas in line with the amount the user has actually consumed. The operator of the distribution system is obliged to perform readings for users from the category of households two times a year (31 June ± 15 days and 31 December ± 15 days), and for other users on a monthly basis (last day of the month ± 6 days).
In order for the end users to pay for as precise as possible monthly prepayments for gas consumed within a six-month period, users from the category of households can arrange with their supplier (the supplier sends the bills) for a non-standards service of establishing a monthly payment obligation on the basis of their gas meter readings. In that case the users submit their readings to their supplier, not the operator (GPZ).

  • Why do I have to allow the authorised person who performs the gas meter reading to enter my apartment if I had already submitted my reading over the phone?
Along with gas meter reading, the authorised person also performs a visual inspection of the measuring regulation equipment, which is a prerequisite for gas supply.

  • Where can I find out if there is an available gas network close to my address?
Questions about the position of the gas infrastructure in the distribution are of Gradska plinara Zagreb, as well as inquiries about the situation maps required for drafting project concepts, can be sent via e-mail to dokumentacijski.centar@plinara-zagreb.hr.

  • How can I get a gas connection if my apartment is in a building which has the infrastructure?
Request for an authorised engineer to draft a project of mechanical installations, based on which you request the issuing of energy permit. The energy permit is issued according to the price list of non-standards services. Based on the said project, you will hire an authorised gas mechanic to perform the needed works on gas installations.
Based on the issued energy permit, you need to sign a contract on gas supply. In order to obtain the energy permit and contract works, you need to resolve ownership issues with co-owners in the building (consent from the representative of the co-owners or authorised building manager), and if the planned appliance is connected to a flue gas vent, you need to obtain a favourable finding from an authorised chimney sweeper.

  • Can gas be installed in an apartment in a building which doesn’t have gas infrastructure?
No, it can’t, but the infrastructure can be installed, that is, the building can be connected to the gas supply network. First, the co-owners need to make a decision on the gas connection, which is then realised via the building manager. You need to apply for the energy requirements, based on which a project of the mechanical installations needs to be drafted, with three copies submitted for the obtaining of the certificate of compliance of technical documentation from GPZ. Once you obtain this certificate, you need to apply for an energy permit for tenant units and for a connection point. Applications are submitted to the Sales Department of GPZ, which will draft a contract for a connection for the building based on the application of the building manager (representative of the building’s co-owners) and provide information on indoor installations, connecting tenant units and the start of gas supply. Indoor installations are done by authorised gas mechanics, and there is a list on our web page.

  • I want to disconnect from the common boiler room in my building and install gas - what do I need to do?
To disconnect from the common boiler room of your building, you need to obtain the consent of the co-owners’s representative or authorised building manager and apply for the energy requirements, based on which a project of the mechanical installations needs to be drafted, with three copies submitted for the obtaining of the certificate of compliance of technical documentation from GPZ. Once you obtain this certificate, you need to apply for an energy permit, based on which the existing contractual obligation of supply in the common boiler room will be cancelled, and a new contract for central heating will be concluded. You need to hire an authorised gas mechanic to perform the reconstruction of the gas installations as per the project.
